Waynesville VISTA 2017-2018

Members will utilize their strengths and work together with the with the director to develop comprehensive systems, programs, and procedures, as well as secure funding sources that will expand the use of volunteers and strengthen community-school relationships to provide support for student achievement needs of at-risk populations. Areas of focus include: Family Volunteers: Design recruitment tools, refine training protocols and data management system, create specialized volunteer training protocols, manuals, and presentations, and create tutoring materials specifying skills for academic remediation. Develop parenting support resources, materials, and curriculum to increase parental involvement in education. Community Volunteers: Establish relationships and explore opportunities for community service organizations, state and local agencies, human service providers, businesses, and military partners to work with the school community to support the needs of at-risk students. Establish a database of community resources that will support at-risk populations and programs utilizing the specific skills, talents, and resources of community partners. Student Service Learning: Design and provide staff awareness and training opportunities. Work with staff to fashion a district wide service-learning curriculum and program. Network with the community to establish opportunities for service learning partnerships. Work with teachers and students to carry out and publicize service learning experiences. Search for methods to incorporate service learning as an important component of the district education. Student Support Systems: Coordinate service of volunteers with school intervention delivery models. Design curriculum to support volunteer remediation efforts. Investigate funding sources and service delivery methods to support intervention programs for at-risk students utilizing volunteers and community resources.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
